Algeria is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa, borders Tunisia to the north-east, Libya to the east, Niger to the south-east, Mali and Mauritania to the south-west, Morocco to the west and Mediterranean Sea to the north. Algeria population in 2025 is estimated to be 47.21 million, covers country area of 2,381,741 sq km (919,595 sq mi), largest country in Africa, world's tenth largest country by area, and the thirty-forth most populous country in the world. Its capital is Algiers and other popular cities are Oran, Constantine, Annaba, Bilda, Batna, Djelfa, Sétif, Sidi Bel Abbès and Biskra. Country code is DZA, The official language of Algeria is Arabic, other recognized language are Berber and French. Muslim Arabs of the Umayyad Caliphate conquered Algeria in the early 8th century. Algeria is the former French colony between 1830 and 1962, and largest nation in Africa, It is a member of the African Union, and its military is the largest in Africa.
