History
British Columbia area is home to First Nations groups that have a long history. There are more than 200 First Nations in BC with a significant number of indigenous languages. Lands now known as British Columbia were added to the empire during the 19th century. The British spread across the world claiming territories and building the British Empire. A series of gold rushes in various parts of the province followed, the largest being the Cariboo Gold Rush in 1862.cPopulation in British Columbia continued to expand as the province's mining, forestry, agriculture, and fishing sectors were developed.
