The Republic of the Congo is a country located in the western coast of Central Africa, borders Gabon to the west, Cameroon to its northwest, Central African Republic to its northeast, DR Congo to the southeast, Angolan exclave of Cabinda to its south, and Atlantic Ocean to the southwest. The Republic of the Congo is on the western side of the Congo river, French ruled the Western Congo or Congo-Brazzaville from 1880, gained independence in 1960 and became the Republic of Congo. On the eastern side Belgium was the first country to claim the Eastern Congo territory previously known as the Zaire region in 1885, The Belgian government named Belgian Congo in 1908, also gained independence in 1960 forming Democratic Republic of the Congo with the Capital of Kinshasa. Republic of Congo population in 2024 is estimated to be 6.15 million, covers country area of 342,000 (132,000 sq mi) , ranks sixty-forth country by area and the one-hundred-fourteenth most populous country in the world. Its capital is Brazzaville, is sometimes referred to as the Little Paris of Africa and has an intriguing French culture, and other popular cities are Pointe-Noire, Dolisie and Nkayi. The capital of Brazzaville is an interesting cross section of markets and colorful French architecture. Republic of Congo population in 1960 is 1,018,254, by 1970 the population is increased by 308,640 totaling to 1,326,894, by 1980 the population is increased to 1,777,932, and by 1990 the total increase of 2,356,740 in 30 years from 1960 to 1990 resulting to 2,356,740. From 1990 to 2000, population increased to 3,127,420, and from 2000 to 2010 the population of Republic of Congo increase by 1,146,318 with a change of 36.65 percent and increase of population from 2010 to 2020 by 1,244,354 with a change of 29.12 percent and make up to 5,518,092. Republic of Congo population in 2023 is estimated to be 5.9 million, population in 2022 is estimated to be 5.79 million.
