Sierra Leone is a country on the southwest coast of West Africa, borders Liberia to the southeast and Guinea surrounds the northern half of the nation. Sierra Leone has the history of the transatlantic slave trade, In 1787 Freetown city was founded as a home for repatriated former slaves from Americas and London. Sierra Leone population in 2024 is estimated to be 8.7 million, covers country area of 71,740 sq km (27,700 sq mi), ranks one-hundred-seventeenth country by area, the 101th most populous country in the world and is the second poorest nation in the world. The capital and largest city is Freetown and other popular cities are Bo, Kenema, Makeni, Koidu Town, Lunsar and Port Loko. Country code is SLE, Life expectancy of Sierra Leone is 59.60 years for male and 61.90 years for female.
Sierra Leone is a multi ethnic community with 15 ethnic groups, Ethnic groups are Krio, Mende, Temne, Limba, Kono, Koranko, Fullah, Susu, Kissi, Loko, Madingo, Sherbro, Yalunka, Krim, Vai and Leonean. The two dominant ethnic groups were the Mende with 31.9 percent and Temne with 31.4 percent of the total population of Sierra Leone. The two ethnic groups make up almost two-thirds of the total population, remaining 13 groups make up just a little over a third of the population with Krim accounting for only 0.2 percent, other 13 ethnic groups account for less than ten per cent each.

Sierra Leone population in 1960 is 2,317,638, by 1970 the population is increased by 427,252 totaling to 2,744,890, by 1980 the population is increased to 3,388,494, and by 1990 the total increase of 4,319,763 in 30 years from 1960 to 1990 resulting to 4,319,763. From 1990 to 2000, population increased by 264,807 to 4,584,570, and from 2000 to 2010 the population of Sierra Leone increase by 1,831,066 with a change of 39.94 percent and increase of population from 2010 to 2020 by 1,561,349 with a change of 24.34 percent and make up to 7,976,985. Sierra Leone population in 2023 is estimated to be 8.52 million, population in 2022 is estimated to be 8.3 million, Population of Sierra Leone in 2021 is estimated as 8.14 million.
